Το νιτρικό μαγνήσιο αναφέρεται σε ανόργανες ενώσεις με τον τύπο Mg (NO3) 2 (H2O) x. Όλα είναι λευκά στερεά. Το άνυδρο υλικό είναι υγροσκοπικό, σχηματίζοντας γρήγορα το εξαένυδρο όταν στέκεται στον αέρα. Όλα τα άλατα είναι πολύ διαλυτά σε νερό και αιθανόλη.
